After thoroughly investigating 65374’s Smiths is White Co, GA, I decided to use some of my newly acquired skills to see what I could come up with by analyzing the 1810 Rockcastle Co, KY census.
[Note: 65374 is the FamilyTreeDNA kit number for a 67/67 yDNA match of mine. For privacy reasons, I have chosen to use his kit number rather than his name.]
I found a RevWar pension application for an Aquilla Smith who was much older than the Aquilla that was Samuel Rice Smith’s neighbor. This “Aquilla Smith, Sr.” mentions that he was discharged at “96” in South Carolina.
I have not conclusively linked Aquilla Smith into our tree, but descendants of him share autosomal DNA with us, and direct patrilineal descendants of Aquilla Smith resemble myself when I was younger. I will say that I do not have definitive yDNA results of a patrilineal descendant of Aquilla Smith who married Elizabeth Collier.
Ok, on to the main topic.
If you take a look at the following page, you’ll see our Isaac Smith, Sr. listed as living next to a Middleton Singleton and Phillip Singleton.
(Scroll down until you see “164” under the “Page #” column. You’ll see Isaac Smith and Peter Duncan)
Firstly, we know that this is my Isaac Smith because a Peter Duncan is found close by. Peter witnessed Isaac Smith’s brother’s marriage in 1809 in Woodford Co, KY. [Samuel Smith m. Elizabeth Rice] Here is Isaac and Nancy’s original marriage record:

From this marriage record, we can assume that Isaac’s father was an Andrew Smith.
A few houses down from Isaac Smith was a George Smith and a Col. William Smith. I believe I can show how Gen. William Smith was related to Isaac’s neighbors.
Here’s a webpage that shows how the Singletons tie in to the Smith extended tree.
We can see that the Fish and Smith families merge with Col. (later B.Gen.) William Smith and Anne Fish. Here is their marriage record.

I feel that the proximity of Isaac to the Singletons and Gen. William Smith indicates that they are all probably family. Additionally, Gen. William Smith was said to have first married a Singleton woman.
William’s descendants are chronicled in the above links well. I would like to independently verify everything, however.
I believe Andrew and William were related, but I am not sure exactly how. William was said to have been born at a fort near Glade Hollow, VA. I have found a migration of people from Orange Co, NC to Russell Co, VA (see Smidt/Stalcup research, unrelated families) and among those records is an Andrew Smith who is said to also have gone by Andreas Smidt. I want to double check those records to see if somehow two people of similar names and migration routes got mixed up.
Let me know if you have any problems viewing the images or links I have included.
Thanks for reading!
Chris Smith
