The marriage record I’m working from shows:
Isaac Smith m. Nancy Hendrix, 1809 in Woodford, KY
Witnesses: Coonrod Hendrix and Peter Duncan
Bondsman: Andrew Smith
In your Rockcastle records, I see:
Col. Elihu/Elisha Smith
(Probable son of General William Smith of The Kentucky Militia). This is significant for three reasons.
One, my Isaac Smith lived just “down the road” (according to the census records) from this “Col. Wm Smith” of Mt. Vernon. You also have a record from 1812 showing a transaction between Peter Duncan and a “Colo Wm Smith”.
Three, this may connect two different Smith groups I’ve been looking at.
Taking a look at this site:
We find there is a Grider and Smith family that live close to each other. I believe this is the family of John M. Smith who married Isabel Grider. They lived in Leatherwood, Adair Co, KY in 1870. There are two important names in this group. (The following names are taken from the 1870 Leatherwood, Adair, KY census record)
Samuel Rice m. Mahala Farrow
I believe this is a son or grandson of the Samuel Rice whom my 3rd great-grandfather is named after (Samuel Rice Smith [the first]). The Isaac Smith in the 1809 marriage record (at the beginning of the e-mail) had a brother, SamuelSmith. Samuel Smith married an Elizabeth Rice, a daughter of a William Rice (Andrew Smith was again the bondsman), who was a son of Samuel Rice. Nancy Hendrix’s mother was also a Rice of this Samuel Rice line. Both Samuel and Isaac were sons of Andrew Smith.
Sarah Smith, widow. (b. 1795 in Virginia).
I have an autosomal DNA match with a descendant of a Sarah Smith who married a Joab Moore. Sarah and Joab settled in “Little Egypt” in southern Illinois around 1820-1830. My match lost Sarah‘s census record trail around 1860. I believe she was related to this John Smith/Isabel Grider family and can be found in the 1870 Leatherwood record.
Another interesting possible connection is the name Lafayette Smith. Looking at this snippit:
Pg.157: BUCHANAN, REUBEN, was born March 20, 1809, in Woodford Co. KY. His father moved, in 1819 or ’20, to Morgan Co. IL. Reuben remained there until 1834, when he came to Sangamon county, settling at Salisbury, where he was married to Barbara Duncan, a step-daughter of Solomon Miller. She was born March 15, 1812, in Cumberland Co. KY. Mr. Buchanan … until his death, which occurred Nov. 14, 1861. His widow resides with her son-in-law, LafayetteSmith, in Springfield.

The name Lafayette Smith is that of a son of a Greenbury Smith.
Greenbury Smith was a brother to an Aquilla Smith. The family history (according to George Poffinbarger) can be found here:
Greenbury is suggested to have been a son of Elijah Smith and Margaret Preston. We also find Col. William Smith in these records. This Smith line goes back to Frederick County, MD (or Fredericksburg, MD). I have AncestryDNA matches who are descended from Aquilla Smith and Elijah Smith.
Aquilla Smith was the immediate next door neighbor (to the north) of Samuel Rice Smith in Salt Creek Township, Jackson County, Indiana around 1830-1840.
It appears that Lafayette Smith went on to marry a Harriett Buchanan, a daughter of Reuben Buchanan and Barbara Duncan.
